2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the last year of World War One. Following our highly successful tours to Gallipoli and Beersheba, Zeppelin Travel is offering a guided tour of the Western Front battlefields in France and Belgium, with particular emphasis on the part played by the Australia Imperial Force.

AUSTRALIANS ON THE WESTERN FRONT 1916-1918

A new fully escorted 15 day  tour to the Western Front, leaving Brisbane on 19th August 2018.

Led by historians Peter Headley and Robert Likeman, the tour will visit principally visit sites of interest to Australians. The group will be based in Amiens for six nights and in Ieper (Ypres) for four nights. There will be two nights accommodation in Paris at the beginning of the tour, and one at Ermenonville (close to Charles de Gaulle Airport) at the conclusion of the tour.

IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF THE ANZACS IN THE HOLY LAND 2017

This year marks the centenary of the famous Charge of the Australian Light Horse at Beersheba on October 31st. To celebrate this event, Zeppelin Travel together with the Israel Travel Centre is organising a tour of Israel and Jordan which will include visiting places relevant to the Australian forces, and attending a re-enactment of the Charge. The dates are expected to be from 22nd October to 6th November. There will also be an opportunity to visit the principal holy sites in Israel, and Petra and Aqaba in Jordan. Details of the itinerary and costs will be announced here as soon as arrangements are finalised. This is a 'once in a lifetime' opportunity.

Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Annual Conference May 2016

I have been invited to present three papers in the History section at this Conference, which is to be held in Brisbane.

My keynote address will be titled "Sharp Compassion - the story of the Australian Voluntary Hospital in WW1".

The Herbert Moran Memorial Lecture will be titled "Lucknow and then - the extraordinary life of Dr William Brydon"

I shall also be presenting a paper entitled 'A Tale of Two Battles' in the military history section on Fromelles and Pozieres.

BRISBANE History Group

The Brisbane History Group is holding a seminar entitled 'Brisbane and World War 1' in the GT125 Theatre at St Joseph's College, Gregory Terrace, Spring Hill on Saturday 3 October.

I shall be speaking on Brigadier Lachlan Chisholm Wilson (see my book, From Law to War),

and the title of the presentation will be "The Least-Known Distinguished Man in Queensland".
